We are sorry to hear of Harold's passing. We got to know Harold while preparing the Warwick Township history. He was very helpful with that project. We also learned a great deal about maple syrup making while visiting the Zavitz sugar bush over the years. He and Irene enjoyed preserving many objects in their antique collection at the sugar bush and explaining the use of them. Harold was a real gentleman.

My earliest memories of Uncle Harold are of him leading the Sunday school worship - his tall, lean handsome figure proudly belting out Jesus Loves Me with his head held high, his blue eyes sparkling. He always seemed to enjoy the birthday cake piggy bank and letting us children deposit our coins into the slot. Harold to me was strong and steadfast but I will also forever be grateful to him for his gentle, quiet support in tough times. He was a man of many talents and much integrity and his presence on this earth will be missed. But now he is seeing his Jesus face to face and I'm sure will be enjoying the great reunion.

In memory of Uncle Harold:
I too have memories of helping Uncle Harold in the sugarbush trudging through knee deep snow helping deliver the liquid gold from tree to shanty via the little tank behind the tractor that sometimes I admittedly over filled only to see 5 or 10 gallons of that tree sap come sloshing out each side of the open tank while going through the many potholes and tree root obstacles on route to the shanty. Uncle Harold was a part of my life as a young adult (18 - 20) at which time I lived with him and my Aunt Irene.I remember as an aspiring future Autobody repairman but still in high school I would love to spend lots of weekends out there working on... or should I say playing with their old retired 1966 Dodge that Harold had given to me. Admittedly lots of pop rivets and warped welds later the car would never see the road again but I had lots of fun learning! I also was thankful for Uncle Harolds patience with my teenage irresponsibility whether I was leaving his tools under the car or the empty tanks when he would go to use the torches! or me hammering, grinding or firing up the old car less the muffler when he was having his sunday afternoon naps!. Thank you for being there and being part of the formative years of my life.

Dear Irene, Lorraine, Wilbert, Kathy and your families. So saddened at the passing of Harold. Being the youngest sibling I never got to see Harold growing up. He was 17 when I was born, working out on the telephone lines. One year when I was about 5 he was home for the weekend. It was Easter weekend to be exact and he brought me a present. I opened it and there to my amazement was the most beautiful little red velvet hat. I loved that little hat and when he would be home and took me to Sunday school I wore it with such pride. We shall miss his smile and sense of humour, his stories of long ago. So many fond memories of being at the sugar bush, the music at Gramma Fraser's. Much love always Big Brother

Our sincere and condolences: Irene, Wilbert, Lorraine, Kathy and families.
In memory of my last of three big brothers.
Harold, being 15 years older than myself helped to raise me I am sure.
We shared many of the same interest and traits with both of us seeming to be able to eat as much as we wanted too without putting on any weight.
We both enjoyed working with our honeybees from childhood to present, a trait probably passed on from our Dad and Grandfather.
We both esteemed in our interest of electronics and the repair of items with both of us having a business for many years doing just that.
Our father and mother made maple syrup and this interest was installed into all of us.
After retiring and closing our electronic store in Simcoe in 1997, I left myself open to helping Harold make maple syrup each spring as my next older brother Grant was beginning slow down on the night shift. See the pattern?
I spent many a night over the years boiling sap in his two evaporators, then going home at dawn, beat, tired and hungry. Always met by another one of Irene's big breakfast
The syrup shanty near Arkona now stands silent with only the memories of that sweet smelling aroma of boiling sap and the rising of steam out of the overhead vents.
We are really going to miss you brother and brother in-law. Looking forward to seeing you in heaven.

So sorry to hear of Harold's passing. We do remember Harold and his care for people. A wonderful man and appreciated by many. My father, who passed away several years ago, always spoke well of Harold also. I am sure there now is a siginificant hole in your family, but we do know he is with his Lord and Saviour. However, we also know a loss is a loss. Blessings, love, prayers, and our sympathy to you at this time.

Condolences Aunt Irene, Wilbert, Lorraine, Kathy and family.
I have a lot of fond memories of Uncle Harold from over the years, particularly year after year out at the sugar bush collecting sap working as a kid every March break struggling through snow and mud as a little guy working at the old shanty, and then eventually moving up at the road in the new location. Payment always came as a little liquid gold in a jar that we rationed and cherished to the last drop. A lot of times hanging around the evaporator as dad kept the fire going, and dad and Harold would get telling stories from the past when they were boys drawing sap with horse team and making syrup out on the home farm. A lot of great memories.
Always enjoyed the stories and conversations as a kid, and in later years sitting around the table hearing tales about his early years spurring up poles working for the telephone company and some of the antics that went on. Always had stories and tales to listen to when the brothers all got together.
I can only imagine that things are continuing on once again now as Harold joins Lawrence, Sam, and dad (Grant) in heaven with the stories and reminiscing in this reunion, but in their new bodies and in the house of the lord.
....and if there are sugar maple's in heaven....the 4 of them will surely be gearing up for the beginning of yet another syrup season I'm certain.
For those left behind, hold onto all those fond memories and celebrate a great life. This was 88yrs well lived, and countless people forever touched.
