Obituary of Adolf Klein

Adolf Josef Hermann Klein, May 1, 1933- May 19, 2016. Died at the age of 83. One of ten children to Joseph and Anna Klein of Dœrndoff, Germany (now Płonica, Poland), he lived a hard life as a young man caring for his mother and siblings at the end of the war. He moved around Germany working on various farms and gaining the knowledge and experience he would need to eventually run his own operation. Inspired by a magazine article featuring Canada, he decided that Canada would be his future. He was the only one of his siblings to make the move. Against his Mother’s wishes, he waited until he was 23 before setting off to Canada under the Canadian farm labourer program. He landed in Leamington, ON, in 1956. He found work as a farm hand, taught himself English while studying for an RCA Victor radio/television repair course, and eventually met Annie Enns, also an immigrant to Canada, who in 1960 would become his wife of 56 years. In 1965, he and Annie purchased a farm on Churchill Road near Watford, ON where they moved with four children and Annie’s mother, Helen. They lived there for over 30 years sharing the highs and low of making a success of the farm. Adolf and Annie retired to Watford in 1995. Survived by his wife, Annie, and their four children, Heidi, Manfred , Marianne, Arthur and three grandchildren Mariel, Emma and Graeme. His children benefited from his strong sense of self, spirit of adventure, integrity, and loyalty. The children would like to thank the many friends and neighbours for all their help over the past year. A special thank you to Rod and Gerald. A Celebration of Life Event will be held sometime in June. Details will be announced. Online condolences may be left at www.denning.ca Funeral arrangements entrusted to Denning’s of Watford.
