I was struck with sadness when I came across Lonnie's obituary by chance. We had worked at London Life at the same time a number of years ago, and while I didn't work closely with Lonnie, it didn't take long to learn the character of the man. My condolences to his family and his friends.

Lonnie,
Thank you for making me feel I belonged.
Thank you for opening up to me when you felt you didn't.
Thank you for reminding me that 'strong' and 'compassionate' can both be found in the same leader.
Thank you for the giggles.
Thank you for teaching me the ropes.
Thank you for encouraging me to jump in with both feet.
Thank you for being my friend.

Please accept my deepest condolences for Lonnie's family. My fondest memory of Lonnie was when he lived on Puce Road when I was about 19. I would visit the family a lot and Lonnie was always there to say hi. He was also like my little brother. He teased me like his dad. I knew that he liked me. I was saddened to hear of his passing. I will pray for him and your family. The world will miss you Lonnie. It will not be the same without you.

I feel so fortunate to have had the pleasure of working with Lonnie for almost 10 years. It still makes me smile that every time I saw him he still called me Kelly (after my mom). He was always so eager to point out to any new StarTechers previously from London Life that I was her daughter - just his way of getting me acquainted with newcomers quickly - and it worked! He was always my go-to person for integrating new ideas into process and we spent many lunch hours chatting and munching sociably. He had a great sense of humour and always made time for me. I am truly saddened that he was taken so soon, and yet know that he touched so many people in such a positive way that he will not be forgotten. Rest in peace Lonnie.

I'll miss the frequent chats that Lonnie and I had the most, he made me smile but most of all he made me think. He shared so many experiences and insights, I learned a lot from him. And of course, we shared a passion outside of work for classic cars and could talk about them for hours, I'll miss that too.
Beth, Carissa and Kiera, my heart is with you. Lonnie was a very special colleague and friend. I'll miss him dearly.

Beth, Carissa and Kiera,
Words cannot express how lucky I feel to have had Lonnie in my life as both a colleague (StarTech.com) and a friend.
Lonnie and I shared a true love of TED Talks and audio books and I thoroughly enjoyed sharing insights about what we had read and listened to and brainstorming ideas on what we could use both professionally and personally.
He was a source of understanding and strength when I went through some difficult times medically with my 2 boys and reminded me when his own journey began, to never forget the most important thing I had learned prior; family is #1.
I will forever remember Lonnie as an amazing family man first, a wonderful mentor and friend; someone to truly emulate.
I wish you all strength and love now and forever,
Anita Sutton

Beth, Carissa and Kiera....you know how much Lonnie meant to me. Working together for over 25 years afforded me the opportunity to see his incredible spirit and talents so much so I had to have him join me at both Pollock and StarTech where I rode the wave of his career with him. Although we always had our work in common, our relationship was just as much rooted in our personal journeys. I watched your family grow and thrive and knew above all else his priority was his family. Thank you for allowing me to spend time with my dear friend and colleague over the past few months and I'm so grateful I had a chance to deeply connect to say goodbye. Love Deborah

On behalf of my family we extend our heart felt condolences to you Beth, Carrisa and Kiera and Lonnie"s parents Ruth and Robert ( whom as part of a young group of guys always treated us as family). Lonnie is a part of a extended group of friends that formed back before many knew him, I read many condolences of co-workers ,friends and family that loved, admired, respected Lonnie and was a part of his life. For me I respected the man back before we were men, Lonnie was a confidant, someone whom listened first, always the mature one to keep us on the straight and narrow( not that succeeded all the time) but he never turned his back.We shared many hours working on our Camaros and Firebirds in the back shed on the property in Puce. That was some special times, that was when Lonnie had the best hair of all of us. Perhaps through life some things drift away, but Lonnie's legacy will go on,through his wife Beth and their beautiful aspiring daughters Carrisa and Kiera . Lonnie we will miss you friend ,your mentorship and need to help others was never learned you were born that way.

I don’t remember the first time I met Lonnie. I was supporting the sales team at StarTech.com and he was newly hired to head up our IT dept. He took an interest in what I was doing and brought me onto his team. Over our 10-year journey we launched dozens of IT projects together. Lonnie was a details man through and through. A pragmatic thinker to the extreme with an incredible ability to remember everything I said, even if the conversation happened years in the past. I think he kept every email I ever sent to him.
He taught me about TED talks, POD casts, Self Help books, Digby Scallops, Car ownership costs. The list goes on. He was the mentor and I was the student.
One of the things we both shared was our introversion. Being an introvert is challenging in an extrovert world. I think at times Lonnie thought this held him back as a manager. I disagree. He was one of the best. As an introvert who we call friends needs to meet a very specific set of rules. The honour of friendship doesn’t come lightly for us.
Upon hearing of his passing I just wanted to say “Thank You for everything you ever did for me. I will miss you my friend”

Beth, girls, family of Lonnie... it was with profound sadness to learn of Lonnie's passing. He was one of the nicest, funniest, kindest souls I've ever met. Our shared wry sense of humour was an instant bond between us for the past many years. We never passed up an opportunity to stop and chat to each other to catch up on things and poke fun at each other. He was never without a smile and a joke. His loss is felt heavily by the entire StarTech family and very much so by me... I stayed in touch with him during this difficult time and hoped we would again be working side by side... or even just chat... however, that was not to be. The depth of sorrow we all feel on Lonnie's passing is a function of the great joy he brought to all us. Be comforted by the love and admiration he acquired through his life. Farwell, Lonnie, old friend... a life well-lived !

Lonnie hired me almost 9 years ago when he was building StarTech's IT team. I remember a hot July morning when he met me in the parking lot. It did not feel like an interview at all - just a friendly chat, he did not play any games, just stated sincerely what kind of person he looked for. I felt like I had known him for years. I felt so good after because of the experience of meeting such an open and smiling person - I told myself, regardless of the outcome. So it happened that he had been my boss for more than 8 years and he was always like the first day, for all people he worked with. It is really hard to get over his sudden departure from the midst of us. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Goodbye, Lonnie - until we meet again...

The Master Weaver
My Life is just a weaving
between my Lord and me;
I do not choose the colors
He weaves in accurately.
Sometimes He weaves in
sorrow
And I, in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper,
And I the underside
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why
The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver's skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.
My heartfelt sympathy to all who knew and appreciated Lonnie:
