Ronald Bryce

Obituary of Ronald Alexander Bryce

There was only one Ronald Bryce and there will never be another one like him. He was a true character.

He does not deserve to have a cookie cutter obituary and therefore, he will not get one.

He believed in God, fighting for what is right and sticking up for the little guy.

He loved his family, his farm and his faith.

He had simple tastes: plaid shirts, corn on the cob, Coca Cola in glass bottles and Ford pickup trucks.

He enjoyed reading farm magazines, watching Murder She Wrote and taking his dogs for truck rides.

He had a soft spot for animals. More than a few times, his farm animals died of old age or natural causes rather than being sent to market.

He was known for his smile, his dad stare and his kindness to strangers.

He taught us to always try to do the right thing, to be responsible citizens and to be caretakers of the land.

He abhorred right wing extremism, hypocrites, bullies and Conrad Black (he destroyed Massey Ferguson…don’t you know?).

Ron worked at Polysar (and all of its changes in ownership) for over 42 years. He married his wife, Gail, in 1967.  When Gail suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke in 2002, Ron retired to take care of her. There was never any other option for him; she would not go to a nursing home.

Ron is the father of Joan, Michael (Danielle), Mark (Robin) and Rhonda (Dennis).

He is the proud Papa Ron of Rayah, Braxton, Quinn, Mya and Ainsley.

He is the brother of Lyle (late Penny) and uncle to Lesley (Steve) and Danielle (Gary).

He has been a life long member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Watford.

2023 was a tough and challenging year for Ron. In January, he faced a fire on his farm and Gail’s pneumonia in September.  All of this took a toll on him.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at the graveside at a later date.

In honour of Ron and the life he lived, please do an unexpected act of kindness for someone and, perhaps think of Ron’s memory.

He was a good man.
He lived a good life.
We will miss him.
