Obituary of Duncan Tait
Peacefully, at Four Counties Health Services on July 11, 2012, Duncan Alexander Tait of Dunwich Township. Born in Aldborough Township (Crinan), August 23, 1919 the son of Thomas and Jane (Gilchrist) Tait.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Annie Isobel (McCallum), his daughter Phyllis, son Robert Duncan and his wife Maryjo. Also survived by his sister Margaret Dymock and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his older brother James, his twin brother George and brother in law Gerald Dymock.
Duncan volunteered to enlist in 1940 for the Canadian Army and WWII. Duncan trained and served Canada at Chatham, Camp Borden and Wolseley Barracks (London) before departing for England and war on Christmas Day 1941 from Pier 21 Halifax. Duncan fought in a variety of countries and on many different battlefields during the war and was part of the liberation of Europe from 1944-1945. Duncan returned to Crinan and continued to farm, raising cattle, sheep, pigs and crops. Duncan married Annie Isobel in 1963 and continued to farm throughout his life. Duncan was a dedicated member of Argyle Presbyterian Church Crinan, serving as Clerk and Session member, choir member and Sunday School teacher.
Friends may call at the WEST LORNE CHAPEL OF DENNING FUNERAL DIRECTORS on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 4-6 and 7-9 pm. West Elgin Legion Branch #221 will conduct a memorial service at 6:50 pm. Funeral service will be held at Argyle Presbyterian Church, Crinan on Sunday at 2:30 pm. Interment Simpson cemetery.
