Obituary of Alma Winnifred Aitken

Alma Aitken (nee Logan) of Warwick Township passed away suddenly at Strathroy General Hospital on August 19, 2015. Beloved wife of Gordon (61 years) and loving mother to Janice Hands (Tom) Petrolia and Bryan Aitken (Nancy) Watford. Grandmother to Rob Aitken (Sarah), Theresa FitzGerald (Brad), Mark Aitken, Shelley Swan (Adam), Kevin Aitken, Lisa Peters (Kevin), David Aitken and great grandmother to Avery Muxlow-Aitken, Asher Swan, Kylie Peters, Bennett FitzGerald and Cameron Aitken. She was born on February 21, 1933 in Brooke Township to the late Clarence and Bertha Logan. She is survived by her sister Helen Bryson. Predeceased by step-sister Marie Logan and in-laws Clayton Bryson, Vera Morris (George / Cameron MacKenzie), John Aitken (Ruth), Freida Lockhart (Wallace), and Andy Aitken (Dora). Alma worked as a teacher at SS No. 9 Brooke for five years before deciding to stay at home to raise her children. She was active in the community through church and various social events always taking the time to stop and catch up. She had a keen interest in family history, cooking and through the years Gord and Alma enjoyed dancing the night away at various dance halls. In earlier years, Gord & Alma enjoyed vacationing in Florida but always looked forward to coming home to enjoy their favourite past time of spending time with family. Visitors will be received at Denning’s of Watford, 232 Warwick Street, on Friday, August 21st, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, where the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 22nd at 11 am. Donations in Alma’s memory may be made to the Guthrie Presbyterian Church, Alvinston, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
